Job Title: Community Garden Activity Lead

Hours: 18 hours per week

Working pattern: 3 days per week, 6 hours per day

Hourly rate: £15.00 per hour

Annual salary: £14,040 per annum

Contract: Fixed-term, 12 months

Probationary period: 12 weeks

Annual leave: 16.8 days per annum, plus bank holidays (pro rata)

Location: NEPHRA Community Garden, New Moston, Manchester

Responsible to: NEPHRA Management

Line management: No direct line management responsibility

Introduction:

NEPHRA Good Neighbours is a community organisation based in New Moston, North Manchester, supporting people across the local community to stay active, connected and involved.

 

We provide a welcoming and inclusive range of activities, services and opportunities designed to reduce social isolation, improve wellbeing and bring people together. Although much of our work focuses on older people, NEPHRA is open to everyone and supports the whole community, with activities bringing together people of different ages, backgrounds and abilities.

 

Our community garden is an important part of our work. It provides a safe, welcoming outdoor space where people can grow food, learn new skills, spend time outdoors, meet others and contribute to their community. The garden is used for regular gardening activities, volunteer sessions, community projects, children's activities and seasonal events.

 

We are now looking for an enthusiastic Community Garden Activity Lead to help us develop the garden further and make the most of this valuable community resource.

About the Role:

NEPHRA is looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and community-minded Community Garden Activity Lead to take responsibility for the day-to-day development and use of our community garden.

 

This is a varied, hands-on role combining horticulture, activity delivery, volunteer support, community engagement and site development.

 

The successful candidate will help ensure that the garden is a productive, welcoming and well-maintained community space. They will plan and deliver engaging seasonal gardening activities, support volunteers, work with community groups and help develop new opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy and learn from the garden.

 

We are looking for someone who is confident working independently, has practical horticultural knowledge and enjoys working with people. The role will suit someone who can move comfortably between practical gardening, leading a group activity, supporting volunteers, planning future sessions and completing administration. Being enthusiastic about working with people and supporting the local community is a must.

 

The postholder will have responsibility for coordinating volunteers and activities but will not have formal line management responsibility.
