Nephra with the help of a grant from the Local Network Fund ran a two week programme of activities for children in two age groups –under 8’s and 8’s to 16’s. This was an exciting programme which was also supported by the Zest organisation - they provided fresh fruit for the morning and afternoon sessions, as well also practical help with some of the hectic day to day tasks!
The under 8’s programme of events ran from the Parkfield Dance Centre, and Sports Development with the help of our grant ran a range of activities for older children in NuthurstPark.
As you can imagine, protecting children and keeping them safe during play activities is not an easy task. There is so much we needed to consider, and we had to start at the very beginning with the development of our child protection policy. This was then used as our bible for the rest of the planning process.
The attached photographs show that the children had a fantastic time. Our programme was so popular, that due to safety requirements we had to turn children away! We organised our time-table around morning and afternoon seesions for a two week period with trips out - accompanied by parents on Fridays.
We evaluated the programme involving parents and children and for information we have attached the summary as a document file.
For ourselves we found running children's activities to be very rewarding and an enjoyable experience. We hope very much to repeat this programme again this summer, but this will be dependant upon funding and the availability of volunteers!
